The large letter is a "Shin", the initial letter of the verse "Shema Yisrael" --- "Hear, O Israel", the essential statement of monotheism and the central confession of Jewish belief.

The Shin also appears on the mezuzah, the amulet attached to the doorpost of Jewish homes and containing the text of the "Shema", where it signifies "Shad-dai", one of the Almighty"s appellations.

This painting too is rich in Kabalistic themes. The circle is composed of the ten "Sfirot" or divine attributes, while to the left of the "Shin" stands the kabalistic "Tree of Life".

Victor Shrem is a well known Israeli artist, 10th generation in Israel. Each painting has an interesting Jewish or Israeli piece of History
